Your other parent's side

Only one of your parents has tested? From your raw DNA file and that parent's, we estimate the simulated G25 coordinates of the half you got from your other parent. Your DNA files never leave your device.

Free trial: free until 15 November 2026, with both heatmaps included.

How it works

  • You inherited one copy of each marker from each parent. Wherever your file and your parent's show which copy came from them, the other copy came from your other parent.
  • Those copies are turned into simulated G25 coordinates, the same way our simulator reads a single file. The side you got from the tested parent needs no estimate: it is your parent's own file.
  • Both files stay on your device. They are read in your browser, and only two short numeric summaries are sent to us, after you choose a product.

How close it gets

  • Tested on families built from real genomes with official G25: the inferred side lands a typical 0.03 from the untested parent's own official coordinates, against 0.025 for a whole genome through the simulator.
  • Free during the trial: the coordinates with both the modern and the ancient heatmaps. Prices apply only once the trial ends.
  • If your two parents have very similar ancestry, the two sides can't be told apart at this resolution, and your results will say so rather than show a difference that isn't there.
  • This is half of what one parent carries, so it describes your side of them, not all of them.

1 · The child's raw DNA file

The person whose two sides you want: usually you. 23andMe, AncestryDNA, FamilyTreeDNA, MyHeritage, LivingDNA or a WGS Extract kit, as the .txt, .csv, .zip or .gz file you downloaded. More than one kit for the same person? Add them all: more markers make a better split.

2 · One parent's raw DNA file

The parent who has tested. Any company works; it does not have to match the child's.

Put the child's file in step 1. A parent and child share DNA in the same way in both directions, so the tool cannot tell which file is whose. Swapped, the result would describe the wrong person.

Processing happens on this device. The files are compared with each other and with about 237,000 reference SNPs, and reduced to three sets of 64 numbers: the other parent's side, and the tested parent's and the child's own, which are used once to check the result and are not kept. The page also tells us anonymously whether the files could be read and which testing company made them, so we can fix what fails. If two files cannot be split, nothing about that is sent.
